What is hyper-pigmentation and how to avoid it?

  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation : If skin experiences inflammatory phase like eczema or acne, the skin may become overactive and produce such darker spots when it heals.


  • Medical Conditions : If there is an underlying medical issue then one of it's symptoms could be Hyper-pigmentation. One such medical condition is the addison’s disease



How to prevent Hyperpigmentation?


It is not possible to prevent all Hyperpigmentation causes but some certain steps can be taken to prevent it.


  • Stay Away From Direct Sunlight : 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. is known as the peak hours. During this time you should avoid going out in the sun. If you are outdoors, minimize exposure to sun by sitting in the shade or use an umbrella.


  • Use Skin Care Products With Vitamin C : Having antiaging and skin brightening capabilities, vitamin c is a good antioxidant that plays the role of neutralizing free radicals and reducing sun exposure related damage to the skin.


  • Use The Right SPF : Use sun protection cream with SPF 15 or more and apply it daily, even in winter months.




Treatment Of Hyper-pigmentation

There are products and ingredients which help in fading away the dark spots.


  • Niacinamide: It is also called vitamin b3 is known to reduce Hyperpigmentation and even improve skin tone.

  • Retinol: It is an ingredient that reduces dark pigmentation related spots by expediting skin cell turnover.

  • Microdermabrasion Kits: There are microdermabrasion kits available that can be used at home. These help in removing top layer containing dead skins.

  • Vitamin C Skin Care Products: Skin care products that contain vitamin c prove to be beneficial in fading away Hyper-pigmentation marks and provide the skin an even toned complexion.
